Why Are We Doing This?

If you have been with us the past two Sundays, or have been able to listen to the messages on line, then you should have a good idea as to why we are doing this.  If you have not, I want to invite you to do a couple of things.

First, I want to ask you to listen to the past two messages.
Two weeks ago we laid out why we are doing our kinship groups this way this semester. Then, this past Sunday, we spent our time talking about the mission of our church and where we are going over this next year (a couple of people said it was kind of like the State of the Union…albeit with no standing ovations!)  You might have noticed that we have begun video taping our messages and putting them up on line. We are still working out some of the bugs, (this week is a bit dark), but we’ve been getting positive feedback, so we hope you find this helpful.

If your week is a bit rushed, and you aren’t able to view them before this Thursday, you could also read a blog post I wrote last week (part 1|part 2), explaining what we are going to be doing, and why we believe this is an important thing for us to do.

Second, we want to encourage everyone who is part of the Ithaca Vineyard to be part of these meetings.  These will be a very important time in the life of our church!

Third, get together with people throughout the week and talk about what we talked about on Thursday.  Paul commended the Bereans for doing this, and it’ll be a great way for what we’ve learned to really stick.

What If I Can’t Make It?

One of the hardest parts of making the decision to meet on one night per week was recognizing that not everyone would be able to attend.  Between work, and classes, and kids, obviously, one night per week is not ideal.  We are taking a couple steps to address this:

1) We are providing child care at the building every Thursday night.

2) We are having a “Cortland Site.” Since we have so many families from the Cortland area, Ian & Vanessa Toevs will be hosting our Cortland crew to make it easier for those in that area to attend.

3) We are going to provide video of the meetings for those who cannot make it. (we will need you to register so that we can give you access to the videos, and various handouts we will be using.

Even with child care & a distance site, we recognize that this is not a perfect solution.  I want to encourage you to try some creative ideas…maybe parents of young kids could alternate weeks, and then watch the video together afterwards.  If you work in the area, perhaps you could shift your lunch break around a bit…(there might even be some left over food someone could share with you!  Again, none of this is ideal, but as we’ve said, we believe this is a key time in the life of our church.

How Do I Register?

First, if you are planning to attend on Thursday night, please sign up online.  If you live in the Cortland area, and would like more information about that site, please note that in the comment box.

If you are unable to attend, and would like to keep up with what is going on, please register at the same place.

We will send everyone who registers access to the online area where we will put hand outs as well as various other information.

It All Starts This Week!

And just a reminder, we are starting this Thursday, February 3 @ 7:00 pm.  If you would like to bring your own dinner and eat with some others in the cafe, the cafe will be open from 6:00 pm.
